Private quarters: a modified Cape Cod in Ardmore Park

Vineeta and Suresh Prabhu love living in Ardmore Park.

“We like the neighborhood,” said Vineeta. “It’s very convenient to restaurants, museums and the theater. It’s just nice, intown living.”

Their Cape Cod home was big enough when they bought it 14 years ago and their family was young, but with an active teen and ‘tween they needed more space. Buying another house was never a consideration. Like many Atlantans, they decided to remodel their existing home by building up.

The family hired Laura Green of L. Green Studios LLC to create a second story by raising the roof so their 12- and 16-year-old sons, Anand and Saneel, could have bedrooms, a bath and a spacious retreat upstairs. A main floor bedroom was converted into a study. The home also has a new façade that enhances the curb appeal. The project went so well that Vineeta wants to remodel the basement and backyard deck next.

Renovations: The Ardmore Park home used to have three bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. The Prabhus felt cramped as their two sons got older so they hired Laura Green of L. Green Studios LLC in Atlanta, to build up, not out. The roof was raised to add a second story to give their children more room. Now they have four bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, a study and a spacious retreat upstairs for their boys. “Now it’s just right,” Vineeta Prabhu says of the home where they have lived for 14 years. The renovation project was completed in six months. Her next project will be remodeling the basement and backyard deck.

Favorite architectural feature: The high ceiling in the upstairs retreat and the windows that make the house light and airy.

Interior design style: Transitional and vintage industrial.

Favorite design feature: The living room. “It’s just peaceful,” Vineeta said. “I like to sit in here and look out the window.”
